I’ve been a social worker and therapist for over 25 years and in that time, there have been many twists and turns. I started in the non-profit world then moved into community mental health then worked in a higher end private practice.

I feel like I've done it all and have certainly paid my dues!

All of these positions I've had over the years had a few things in common: low pay, crappy benefits, unrealistic expectations to manage HUGE caseloads and it all lead to mounting stress burnout and compassion fatigue.

I thought that opening a private practice would be the antidote to all of this but it wasn't. I worked hard and built my solo practice to multi-6 figures...but I was still stressed and exhausted by the end of each day.

Constant battling with insurance companies, having to deal with fluctuations in caseload resulted in a roller coaster-y income and trading time for (not enough) money began to wear on me over the years.

By the end of everyday, I had nothing left to give my family (and forget a healthy social life) and after 12 years, I knew I couldn't continue to live like that!
